Sheboygan North wins 16th Annual Lakeland College Math Meet

For the 10th year in a row, a team from Sheboygan North   High School won the recent Lakeland College Math Meet.
 
North topped a field of 32 teams comprised of 229 students from five area schools competing in the 16th annual Lakeland Math Meet.
 
Members of the winning North No. 1 team were seniors James Engman, Dan Livermore, Doug Schultz and Pheng Xiong; juniors Brent Janssen and Jake Kapellen; sophomore Gavin Strawn and freshman Derek Adams. Engman and Kapellen were members of last year's winning team. The team was coached by North mathematics instructor Anthony Johannes.
 
Second place went to team No. 7 from North, and third place to Cedar Grove-Belgium team No. 1. Teams from Sheboygan South, Sheboygan County Christian and Kohler came in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
 
Janssen won the medal for the top individual score with 34 out of a possible 40 points. Second place was a tie at 32 between Engman and Nick Burton from Cedar Grove-Belgium. The other top medal winners were Strawn and Kapellen from the winning North team, Emma Giertz from Kohler, Tyler Veldkamp from Sheboygan County Christian and Grant Hoerz and Cortney Pyne, both from South.
 
Eight other students won honorable mention awards: North's Doug Schultz, Mike Wayne and Josh Lueck tied with Michael Olmsted of Kohler for ninth place; North's Tommy Crossley tied with Catherine Lohr from Cedar Grove-Belgium for 13th; B.J. Hilbelink from Cedar Grove-Belgium and Stephen Samuels from Kohler tied for 15th place.
 
Strawn was the leading scorer among sophomores with 29 points. The top ninth grader was Brandon Tomlin from Kohler with 19 points.
