Kohl to succeed Gould as registrar

Erin Kohl, of Green Bay, a member of Lakeland College's staff since 2004, has been named the college's new registrar. She succeeds Susan Gould, who is retiring at the end of May.

Most recently, Kohl served Lakeland as interim vice president of the Kellett School, the college's largest program. She was previously associate dean for operations and advising for the Kellett School and director of Lakeland's Green Bay Center. She has a bachelor's degree and master of business administration from Lakeland.

Gould's retirement marks the close of a 33-year professional career with Lakeland, including 19 years as the college registrar.

Following her graduation in Lakeland in 1979, Gould was named an adult education counselor in the college's relatively new Lifelong Learning program, which eventually became the Kellett School. She was promoted to director of Lifelong Learning, then in 1992 moved to Japan to work at Lakeland College Japan alongside her husband, Steve Gould, who served as dean and provost at the college's Tokyo campus.

She was named registrar in 1993 when the Goulds returned to Lakeland's main campus.

The registrar's office has seen significant upgrades during Gould's leadership. She led several reorganizations of the registration process, including adoption of today's system of online registration. She has developed the college's academic catalog and kept up on the principles and practices of student record keeping as a member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and that organization's state association.

"When I think of what I've been able to experience here, it's been a gift to me," Gould said. "The responsibility that I have here is similar to that of a teacher. You're contributing to society and doing something that helps and changes peoples' lives."
