Lakeland, Sheboygan Press to co-sponsor Assembly debate

Lakeland College and The Sheboygan Press are partnering this month to bring voters in Wisconsin's 26th Assembly District a chance to hear from the two candidates squaring off in the Nov. 6 election.

The incumbent, Republican Mike Endsley, and his challenger, Democrat Mike Helmke, will meet for an evening of discussion of the issues facing the 26th District and the state on Thursday, Oct. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. at the theatre in the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, 608 New York Ave., Sheboygan.

Rick Dodgson, assistant professor of history at Lakeland, will moderate the interactive evening, which will include questions from audience members. The event is free and open to the public. The Sheboygan Press will live stream the event on its website, sheboyganpress.com.

"We used this format for a discussion with Sheboygan's mayoral candidates this spring and it worked well," Dodgson said. "It allows the candidates to go beyond the political speak that's so common today and engage one another in their differences on some important issues. For undecided voters who are looking for a way to get good information, this event will be an ideal place to do that."
