Admission Requirements and Instructions
To be admitted to the English Language Institute at Lakeland College, you must submit:
- Official grades or transcripts of your high school and college studies, including any American colleges and universities. If the documents are written in a language other than English, complete and certified English transcripts must be furnished with the official
document. All academic records, diplomas, and transcripts, including photographic copies, must be signed by the appropriate school or government official and must include the seal of the school or the government. All copies must be certified true.
- A TOEFL score if you have one. A TOEFL score is not necessary to be admitted to the ELI; however, you must score a 173 on the Computer-Based TOEFL (500 on the Paper-Based TOEFL) to be admitted to Lakeland College's academic programs. If you have no score, do not worry; a Paper-Based TOEFL will be given a few days after your arrival.
- A check or money order for $20 U.S. to pay for the mandatory application fee. The check or money order must be made payable to Lakeland College.
- Proper financial documentation. If you have a sponsor, you must provide financial documentation which clearly shows your sponsor's willingness and ability to pay for your expenses while you are studying and living in the United States. If your parents are financially responsible for you, a letter from them and a certificate of deposit are required. If you can financially support yourself, submit a bank certificate of deposit in your name.
Your application for admission and supporting credentials should be filed as early as possible to allow sufficient time to process your application. You should also allow time to get your visa and arrange for transportation. The information and the documents you provide will be carefully examined. Please submit all documents to the International Student Office.
