Experiences: Dr. Bilzing spent thirteen years at the Department of Public Instruction, seven years as the state consultant in school counseling and six years as the director of the State Personnel Development Grant for Special Education and special education consultant.
Prior to work at the Department of Public Instruction she provided pre-service training as an adjunct instructor at Concordia University.
For more than 20 years, Dr. Bilzing was employed as an elementary, middle school and high school counselor, and as community wellness and prevention coordinator in several school districts throughout Wisconsin.
From 1984-1994, she contracted as an AODA consultant. During 1986-1988, Bilzing joined a private counseling practice as a psychotherapist specializing in brief family counseling, eating disorders, and adolescent mental health.
Bilzing also has worked as a HeadStart teacher, as a classroom/center based teacher, and as a junior high teacher.
Professional achievements: 1997-98 Association of Computer-Based Systems for Career Information Award, 2000-2001 Wisconsin School Counseling Association's (WSCA) Leadership Award, and the 2004 WSCA Outstanding Achievement Award. Former member of the Midwest ACT Board, WSCA Executive Board, Wisconsin Council of Administrator of Special Education (WCASE), Board member National Consortium of State Career Guidance Supervisors (NCSCGS).
