Admission requirements

Requirements for Direct Admission to the Nursing Program:

First Year Students (Students who have never attended a college or university)

• Graduated from high school within the past two years
• Successful completion with a grade of C or better in high school biology, chemistry, and algebra
• 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average (GPA)
• ACT composite score of 23 or higher or SAT composite score of 1590 or higher
• Students earning a GED or HSED are not eligible for direct admission to the nursing program.

Transfer Students (Students who have attended another college or university)

• 3.0 cumulative transfer GPA. Grades from multiple colleges will be calculated into one comprehensive cumulative GPA, on a minimum of 24 credits.

• Grade of C or better is required in all behavioral and natural science and nursing courses
• Essential behavioral and natural science courses or their equivalent must be completed within seven years of beginning nursing coursework

Directly admitted students are not required to take the nursing entrance examination (HESI-A2).

Directly admitted students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0, full-time status, and meet progression requirements in order to continue in the nursing program. Directly admitted students whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0, or achieves less than a C in any behavioral or natural science or nursing course, are no longer eligible for direct admission and must apply to the nursing program under the standard admission policy.

All directly admitted students must submit the CCON Direct Admit Intent to Begin form which will be provided the semester prior to starting the nursing program. Students must meet all requirements listed on the form and have it signed by their advisor. The form also must be accompanied by a signed degree audit from the Registrar's Office at Lakeland College. Forms must be received by March 1 for fall admission and October 1 for spring admission.

Requirements for Standard Admission to the Nursing Program

• Submit standard admission application through CCON and official college transcripts for any institutions attended other than Lakeland College prior to March 1 for entry in the fall term and October 1 for entry in the spring term.
• All Lakeland College core and graduation credits must be completed prior to admission to CCON, including completing at least 16 non-nursing credits at Lakeland College
• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or greater on a 4.0 scale.
• Satisfactory completion with a grade of C or better within the last seven years or be in the process of completing the Lakeland prerequisite essential courses or their equivalents:
• Completion of the nursing entrance examination; recommended scores based on current policy at the time of application.
• Ability to meet the Technical Standards for Admission to and Progression in the Nursing Program. These technical standards include physical requirements, communication, intellectual abilities, behavioral and social attributes, physical examination and drug screening, and criminal background check.
• Applicants must submit a course syllabus for any nursing course(s) taken at other institutions.

Limitations to Admission Eligibility

Lakeland College students or applicants will be ineligible for admission or dismissed if directly admitted to the nursing program if at Lakeland College, CCON and/or another institution if they have been:

• Unsuccessful in two or more prerequisite essential or nursing courses
• Unsuccessful in the same prerequisite essential or nursing course twice
• Unsuccessful in one prerequisite essential course and one nursing course

* Unsuccessful is defined as grade of less than C in a graded course, or Fail/Unsatisfactory in a Pass/Fail course, even if the course has been successfully repeated.
