An RBI single by Josh Wolter in the sixth inning ended up being the difference as the Lakeland baseball team fell to second place Marian 5-4 in Fond du Lac on Thursday.
Lakeland led 4-1 after three innings, thanks in large part to home runs by Paul Daniels and Mitch Heinemeyer, but a three run fifth by the Sabres tied the game at four.
Wolter's single scored Jeremy Bartelt, giving Marian a one run advantage.
The Muskies loaded the bases in the top of the ninth, but Tyler Starbird grounded in a game-ending double play.
Heinemeyer went 2-for-4 in the game with two runs batted in. His home run was his team-high sixth of the season.
Daniels' homer was the first of his collegiate career.
Kris Saiberlich took the loss despite pitching his second straight complete game, giving up four runs on 10 hits while striking our four.
The Muskies, now 8-8 in the LMC and 12-21 overall, will look for revenge on Saturday as Marian makes the trip to Lakeland on Saturday for a doubleheader.
