Athletics - posted on 12/3/2005

The Lakeland Muskies improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Lake Michigan Conference with an 82-61 victory over the LMC preseason favorite Edgewood College Eagles on Saturday afternoon.

With the game tied at 17-17 with 9:21 left to play in the first half, the Muskies would go on a 9-0 run to take a 26-17 lead off a 3-point basket by senior Nick Howard with 5:48 remaining. Lakeland would never look back.

The Muskies had three players score in double  digits, led by sophomore Kris Saiberlich with 18 points. Seniors Germayne James and Howard scored 14 and 10 points respectively.

The Muskies shot 56 percent from the field in the game, including a second half performance that saw the Muskies shoot 50 percent from three-point land. Lakeland led by 24 on three different occasions in the second half.

The Muskies are off to their best start since head coach Gary Grzesk took over in May of 2003. Lakeland will continue its three game conference road trip on Tuesday, Dec. 6 when they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran for a 7 p.m. tip.
