Muskies Defeat Concordia-River Forest 75-52

A 15-1 start in the game's opening 5:00 helped lift the Lakeland College Muskies over the Concordia-River Forest Cougars on Saturday evening, 75-52.

Sophomore guard Kris Saiberlich scored seven of the first 15 on his way to a team-leading 19-point performance.

"It was a little bit of a weird game," said head coach Gary Grzesk. "For the first couple months we'd been playing two to three games a week. Not having a game since Saturday was kind of tough, along with the kids being in exams all week. I think mentally and physically it was a challenge to get back into the mode of playing and competing on the floor. I was happy we were ready to play, and happy with the outcome."

The Muskies had four players score in double figures, and their defense did not allow a single Cougar to score in double figures. Junior forward Tyrone Coleman went 7-9 from the floor, while pulling down a team-high seven boards in 24 minutes.

The Muskies shot 49 percent from the floor, while holding CURF to just 41 percent shooting. The Muskies' defense forced 17 turnovers on the evening.

"We have things we can improve on," said Saiberlich. "We are definitely happy with the win, and we wish we would have closed them out a little better than we did. I think at the end of the game we kind of let up a little bit more than we usually do, but we are happy with the win."

The Muskies, 7-2 overall, will travel to Rockford College, Ill., for a contest on Tuesday, Dec. 20, before going to play in the Hope College Holiday Tournament on Dec. 28-29.
