Muskies Defeat Marian In LMC Opener
Athletics - posted on 4/17/2006
The men's tennis team picked up their third win of the season Monday, defeating the Sabres of Marian College in their conference opener, 4-3.
The Muskies came out swinging, earning the doubles point after the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams won their matches over Marian.
"We got the doubles point tonight, and that was huge," said head coach Ben Oestreich. "The scores were close in all of the singles matches. We seemed to control most of them, but when the scores are so even, anything can happen."
Freshman Matt Rutlin, senior Nick Dulmes and senior Lee Sparks all gained wins in singles matches for the Muskies, and with the doubles point, that would be all the Muskies would need.
"I am pleased with the steady play from Matt Rutlin," said Oestreich. "He has been rolling along the past couple of weeks with some impressive play. Nick Dulmes returned to form tonight after dropping his previous match. It was gratifying to see him play well."
The Muskies (3-6, 1-0 LMC) will next face MSOE on Wednesday, April 19 at 4:00 p.m. in Milwaukee.
