The women's tennis team played their first home match of the season on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Howards Grove High School against Edgewood College. The Muskies fell by a score of 9-0 to the Edgewood College Eagles.
"Edgewood is a strong team but we should have been able to push them harder in several matches," commented head coach Mike Devaney . "Our best match was at #1 doubles where (Lisa) Hentges and (Mary Claire) Stockman put pressure on last year's conference champions (Chelsea) Van Hefty and (Kathryn) Wunnicke."
In the doubles match Lisa Hentges and Mary Claire Stockman fell 8-6. In the singles matches Lakeland both Hentges lost to Van Hefty 6-3 and 6-1, while Stockman was defeated by Wunnicke 6-2 and 6-2.
The women will take the courts on Sept. 13 against MSOE at Howards Grove High School for their second conference match of the season at 3p.m.
