Catch This - Soccer Opens LMC Play Against Maranatha Baptist
Athletics - posted on 9/19/2005
The men's and women's soccer teams kick off their Lake Michigan Conference schedules with a doubleheader against Maranatha at Lakeland on Saturday.
The women's team opens the afternoon at 1 p.m. against the Crusaders, who the Muskies beat both times the teams met last year by scores of 5-0 and 3-1.
All but one of the eight Lakeland goals scored in the two meetings were scored by graduated Muskies' standout Amanda Smith, while the other was scored by current Lakeland forward Ann Lehecka.
As a team, Lakeland put up 25 shots on goal in the two games combined, while holding MBBC to six.
The men cap off the day with a 3:30 start to their game against Maranatha. So far this season, the men have come away with just one win, but have battled some very tough teams to close scores.
Last season in the teams' only meeting, the Muskies came away with a 4-1 victory at Lakeland. Current Muskies Scott Kress and Zach Buchman scored goals in the game.
The men have the entire week off to prepare for Saturday's match-up, while the women have a tune-up game against Mt. Mary on Wednesday in Milwaukee.
