Alli Weiss Breaks Lakeland Shutout Record

Athletics - posted on 9/27/2005

Lakeland College junior goaltender Alli Weiss recorded her 16th career shutout in Saturday's 2-0 victory over Maranatha Baptist Bible College, setting a new school record. The New Berlin native passed Kristy Rosenthal (1999-2002) who held the record with 15.5.

"I was surprised, happy and excited at the same time," said Weiss. "I can't take all of the credit. I have a lot of good defenders playing in front of me and without them I could never had achieved this accomplishment."

The goaltender has recorded five shutouts on the season, including two back-to-back shutouts this past week against Maranatha and Marian.

"The record is really nice, but the biggest thing to me is her improvement from this year to last year," said head coach Marc Colwell. "She has worked really hard in the off-season to improve and it is showing."

The junior has worked on her game all summer long in an attempt to help her team reach their goal of going deep into the NCAA playoffs, which she feels would be a greater accomplishment than any personal records.

"I worked out a lot this summer," said Weiss. "My goal was to improve myself and help the team improve. All I did this summer was play soccer. It is a great accomplishment, but I'm more concerned with helping my team win games than I am in receiving personal recognition and achievements."

The Muskies are back in action this week on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Edgewood in a 7 p.m. match.
