Catch This - Volleyball and Soccer Have Big Week Ahead
Athletics - posted on 10/10/2005
The women's volleyball team and men's soccer team both have big matchups this week as both teams head down the stretch of their respective Lake Michigan Conference seasons.
The women's volleyball team heads to Watertown for a date with Maranatha Baptist, which sits atop the LMC at 11-1. The Muskies are tied for second with Wisconsin Lutheran at 9-3.
Lakeland will be looking for some payback after losing a tough match with Maranatha earlier this season, 26-30, 30-28, 25-30, 30-25, 15-12. The Muskies, 13-6 overall, have won eight straight conference matches after a 1-3 league start to stay in the hunt for the program's fifth straight LMC title. Tuesday's match will go a long way toward deciding Lakeland's LMC title hopes this fall.
The men's soccer team hosts perennial power Dominican on Saturday at 3 p.m. Lakeland is unbeaten in the LMC at 3-0-2, while the Stars, the preseason league favorite and the leader in almost every team statistical category, are 5-0 in the LMC and 11-0 overall.
The game will not only go a long way toward deciding this year's conference champ, but would be a statement game for the Muskies, who have prepared for Saturday's matchup with a rugged non-conference schedule.
