Lakeland Muskies vs. Concordia, Ill. Football Preview

Athletics - posted on 10/19/2005

Lakeland Muskies vs. Concordia, Ill., Cougars

Where: Taylor Field, Lakeland College, Sheboygan, Wis.

Kickoff: 1 p.m., Saturday

Records: Lakeland 5-2, 4-0 IBFC; Concordia 0-7, 0-4 IBFC.

Who to watch: Lakeland's sophomore running back Shawn Lee will likely see a lot of work this weekend. The Michigan City, Ind., native has averaged 52 yards rushing per game and has three touchdowns in six games. On defensive side of the ball, look for senior David Benton to have another great game. The Ashtabule, Ohio, native is currently leading the team in sacks with seven and quarterback hurries with four.

Senior quarterback Craig Platt is the starter for Concordia and he has thrown for 712 yards and three touchdowns in seven games this season. Junior Jason Bangert is the leading tackler for the Concordia defense with 46 tackles (35 solo and 22 assisted).

What's at stake: After a huge 17-14 victory at Concordia, Wis., last Saturday, the Muskies have positioned themselves at the front of the pack in the IBFC, and with three wins will earn the program's first-ever NCAA Playoff berth. On paper, the game is a mismatch, but Lakeland cannot look past the Cougars and must avoid any letdown that teams sometimes experience in coming off a big victory. Lakeland's focus will be taking things one game at a time, starting with the Cougars.
