In the last regular season tournament of the year hosted by UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 28 and 29 the Lakeland Muskies dropped three of their four matches against tough competition. In the first match of the tournament against Ripon College the Muskies walked away with a 3-0 (30-28, 30-27, 30-22) victory. The Muskies than dropped their next three matches to UW-Oshkosh (30-13, 30-20, 30-22), Millikin (30-13, 30-13, 30-23) and UW-Stevens Point (30-23, 30-25, 30-16) 3-0.
In the lone victory against Ripon the Muskies were led by their senior class. Lana Neuman recorded 41 assists, while Heather Heberlein and Danielle Duranceau tallied 13 kills each. Defensively, Sarah Buechel had 17 digs and Renee Steinert had six blocks.
In the loss to UW-Oshkosh, the host of the tournament, Heberlein once again led the team in kills with 10. Freshman Jessica Sparling tallied 13 assists. Sophomore Ashley Domask recorded 12 digs.
In the 10 a.m. game on Saturday morning the Muskies were defeated by Millikin. Heberlein and senior Nikki Boeckh each tallied five kills, while Neuman netted 13 assists. Buechel once again led the defense with nine digs.
In the fifth place match on Saturday, the Muskies lost to UW-Stevens Point in a hotly contested contest 3-0. For the fourth straight match Heberlein either led or was tied for the lead in kills, as she netted 16 against UW-Stevens Point. Neuman tallied 23 assists and Buechel came up with 14 digs.
The Muskies will host either Alverno or Dominican in the quarterfinals of the LMC tournament on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7:00p.m.
