Catch This - Lakeland Sports in the Thick of LMC Tournament Action

Athletics - posted on 10/31/2005

Lake Michigan Conference tournament action heats up this week and the Lakeland men's and women's soccer teams and women's volleyball team are in the hunt for the NCAA Tournament spots that go to the victors.

On Tuesday night, the third-seeded men's soccer team travels to Madison for a tournament semifinal against the No. 2 seeded Edgewood Eagles. Earlier in the season, the Muskies defeated the Eagles in Madison, 2-0, on goals from Zach Buchman and Tom Claas. Buchman was one of four goal-scorers in Lakeland's 4-0 first-round win over Maranatha last week.

The second-seeded women's soccer team hosts No. 3 seeded Concordia in their semifinal match on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. The two teams fought to a 2-2 tie back on Oct. 1, but this time around only one team can advance to the championship game.

On Thursday, the women's volleyball team begins its quest for a fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance when they host the winner of Tuesday's match between Alverno and Dominican in the quarterfinal round of the LMC tournament.

The regular season champion Muskies did not lose a game to the two teams during the regular season, going a perfect 12-0 in the four matches. Lakeland has clinched home-court throughout the tournament.

Friday and Saturday mark the final rounds for each of the sports. Look to the athletics section of www.lakeland.edu for information about additional tournament games, locations and times.
