David Benton
Lakeland College senior defensive end David Benton has been named Illini-Badger Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
The Ashtabule, Ohio, native led the Muskies with two sacks and a fumble recovery as he helped the Lakeland defense shut down Aurora University in the Muskies' 58-0 victory this past Saturday. Lakeland clinched the college's first-ever postseason playoff berth with the win.
Lakeland (7-2, 6-0 IBFC) will close the regular season against Greenville College on Nov. 5 at 1:00 p.m. in Greenville, Ill. If the Muskies defeat the Panthers, they will secure their first outright conference championship since 1997 with a perfect 7-0 conference record.
