Lakeland Cracks NCAA Regional Football Rankings

Athletics - posted on 11/10/2005

The Lakeland football team cracked the NCAA's regional football rankings this week for the first time this season.

Lakeland is ranked 10th in the North Region in the NCAA's Division III regional rankings released on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The 8-2 Muskies, who have a bye this week, have already clinched a spot in the NCAA Division III Playoffs by virtue of winning their first outright Illini-Badger Football Conference championship since 1997. It will be the first football playoff appearance for Lakeland in the program's 71-year history.

Lakeland will learn its first-round opponent on Sunday at noon when ESPN News broadcasts the live unveiling of the pairings for this season's Division III playoff field. First round games will be scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19.

Unbeaten Wabash, Ind., is the top seed in the North Region, followed by perennial national power Mount Union and Augustana, Ill. The Division III playoff field includes 32 schools which are seeded and placed into four geographic regions.
