Lakeland Receives Votes in D3football.com Poll

The Lakeland College football program received three votes in the final D3football.com poll of the season, the first time this season that Lakeland received votes in the top 25 poll.

The Muskies finished the season 8-3 overall and a perfect 7-0 in winning their second straight Illini-Badger Football Conference title. By running the table in the conference, Lakeland earned the first-ever postseason football berth in the program's 71-year history, match-up against then-10th ranked Augustana College of Rock Island, Ill.

In addition to receiving votes in the D3football.com poll, the Muskies received numerous awards and recognition for their outstanding play this season. Head coach Jim Zebrowski was named the 2005 Wisconsin Private College Coach of the Year. Seniors David Benton and Ryan Van De Loo were named to the d3football.com All-America squad. Benton was ranked second in the nation in pass sacks and 15th in tackles for a loss, while Van De Loo finished sixth in the country in tackles for a loss. Senior quarterback Ryan Maiuri was named the IBFC Player of the Year and was ranked 50th in the nation in total offense and 59th in pass efficiency. Lakeland finished 10th in the North Region in the NCAA's Regional Rankings.

The D3football.com poll is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, sports information directors and members of the media from across the country, and is published weekly.
