Muskies Drop Two to Culver Stockton

Athletics - posted on 3/15/2006

The Lakeland College baseball team finished their spring trip to Missouri Wednesday afternoon by dropping a pair of games to Culver Stockton College, 5-0 and 13-0.

Junior Mitch Heinemeyer had two of the Muskies' four hits in the first game. Junior pitcher Nate Brusewitz took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings pitched. Brusewitz held the Wildcats scoreless through three innings, but allowed three runs in the fourth.

In the second game, Lakeland hitters didn't fare any better, getting only three hits, two by junior Brett Nelson, off of Culver-Stockton pitchers.

Muskie starter Zach Schmitz cruised through the first three innings before the wheels fell off in the fourth. The Wildcats tagged Schmitz and Dan Rhodes for eight runs on eight hits in the inning to put the game well out of reach for the struggling Muskie bats.

Lakeland opens conference play on Friday, March 24, when they visit Concordia. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
