Lakeland Rolls Past Concordia (IL) 47-6

The Lakeland College football team set up a conference showdown next week in Aurora, Ill., with a 47-6 victory Saturday at Concordia University in River Forest, Ill.
The Muskies, 4-1 in Illini-Badger Conference play and 5-3 overall, will travel to Aurora on Oct. 30 to face the league’s only unbeaten team with two league games to play. Aurora beat Eureka Saturday 45-3 to move to 5-0 in the IBFC.
Saturday, Lakeland’s potent offense got back on track to the tune of 532 total yards including 296 yards rushing and 236 yards passing. The Muskies had a 28-0 lead by halftime.
Sophomore Marcus Denham got the scoring started with a 4-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter. The Muskies scored three TDs in the second quarter – a 43-yard run by junior quarterback Ryan Maiuri, and TD passes from Maiuri to senior Joe Huber (27 yards) and senior Jed Manders (16 yards).
Maiuri had a huge day, accounting for 342 total yards and four touchdowns (two rushing, two passing). He was 19 of 26 passing for 193 yards and rushed for a team-best 149 yards on 11 carries.
Denham finished with 53 yards on 13 carries while Travis Gervais had five catches for 34 yards. Six different players found the end zone as senior Kenny Grundy and freshman Paul Resop also scored rushing TDs.
Lakeland’s defense registered six quarterback sacks and senior Sam Scharinger led the way with eight tackles.
