Muskies Split With Concordia
Athletics - posted on 3/26/2006
The Lakeland baseball team battled Lake Michigan Conference to a split in Sunday afternoon's doubleheader at Muskie Park.
The Muskies grabbed the first game, 4-2, to extend their streak of wins in conference home openers to three. Junior Mitch Heinemeyer drove in three runs, including two on a two-run home run in the first inning.
Sophomore Nate Brusewitz got the victory, allowing only two hits in five innings pitched despite walking seven. Dan Rhodes pitched a perfect seventh to record his second save of the season.
The second game saw Concordia plate three runs in the fourth inning, then add two more in fifth to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
Lakeland battled back with two in the bottom of the fifth, but four costly errors in the top of the sixth led to four more Falcon runs, and eventually doomed the Muskies as they fell 9-6 in a game shortened to seven innings due to darkness.
Junior Zach Schmitz took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits in four innings pitched.
The Muskies play next on Thursday, March 30 when they host MSOE at 3:00 p.m.
