Softball Splits with Lawrence
Athletics - posted on 4/5/2006
The Lakeland softball team split a doubleheader with Lawrence University today, dropping the first game 7-2, and taking the night cap, 11-2.
"We didn't make special plays in the first game," said head coach Chad Buchmann. "We need to make those special plays for us to win games like this. The second game we played pretty solid. We had good pitching and had some hitters snap out of their slumps."
With game one tied at 2-2 heading into the top of the fourth, the Muskies had two costly errors that led to the go-ahead runs, putting Lawrence up 4-2.
Lawrence would add three more runs in the top of the sixth to seal the win, 7-2
In game two, the Muskies would fall behind 2-0 in the first inning, but would rebound to take the lead in the third inning, 3-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Muskies put together a five run inning, aided by three Lawrence errors and an inside the park home run by sophomore Elisa Waltz, that scored two runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Muskies would tack on three more runs to end the game 11-2, thanks to a base-clearing double by junior Katie Yeager.
For the Muskies, Kaite Yeager finished the day 2 for 4 from the plate with two doubles and five RBI's. Elisa Waltz went 5 for 8 with two RBI's, a home run and two runs scored. Senior Monica Hetzel also went 5 for 8 with an RBI and four runs scored.
The Muskies (6-10) will face Edgewood College on Saturday, April 8 in Madison. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
