Muskies Split With Carthage
Athletics - posted on 4/9/2006
The Lakeland softball team split its second straight doubleheader on Sunday, winning the first game, 8-3, and dropping the second, 18-2, against Carthage.
The doubleheader was scheduled to be played at Lakeland but was moved to Kenosha due to poor field conditions caused by a light snowfall this past Friday.
Senior Valerie Barlett's season-long hitting streak continued through the first game, in which she went 1-for-4 with a run scored, but was snapped at 17 games when she went 0-for-3 in the second game.
Sophomore Kourtney Peters led the Muskies in the opener, going 2-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in, while senior Monica Hetzel added two RBIs of her own.
Freshman pitcher Kayla Nissen gave up only three runs on eight hits in seven innings in the first game to grab the win, but was tagged for 16 earned runs in the second game and was given the loss.
The Muskies travel to Madison on Monday to face Edgewood in another doubleheader that was postponed due to Friday's weather. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
