Athletics - posted on 4/18/2006

The Muskies scored seven runs on 11 hits to sweep Marian College in a double header on Tuesday, 4-3 and 3-2.

In the first game, Marian jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Marian's Michelle Babiash doubled in Annie Mamero.

Lakeland would answer in the top of the third inning when Monica Hetzel would drive in Elena Schatz.

The Muskies would add three more runs in the top of the eighth inning, aided by Rebecca Schuettpelz's single to deep center field scoring Elisa Waltz and Val Barlett.

The Sabres would make it interesting, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but would come up short, falling by a final of 4-3.

In game two, the Sabres would strike first, posting two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead.  But the Muskies would answer, posting three runs in the bottom half of the fifth, sealing the win for the Muskies.

Picking up both wins for the Muskies was sophomore pitcher Rachel Griesbach, who pitched eight innings, giving up seven hits and struck out nine.

The Muskies (10-16, 5-3 LMC) will next host Wisconsin Lutheran on Thursday, April 20 for a 3:00 p.m. double header.
