Athletics - posted on 4/23/2006
The Lakeland softball team picked up two Lake Michigan Conference victories as sophomore pitcher Rachel Griesbach tossed a pair of shutouts, 8-0 and 11-0.
Griesbach gave up only two hits in Game 1, both coming in the fifth inning, while striking out six in six innings. In Game 2, Griesbach gave up three hits in the first inning then didn't give up another, striking out five more batters, including all three she faced in the fourth.
The Muskies had a total of 25 hits in the games, including two triples by Kourtney Peters and a three-run inside-the-park home run by Elisa Waltz in Game 1.
Waltz finished with five runs batted in on the day, and Rebecca Schuettpelz went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate with four RBIs of her own.
The Muskies, who improved to 8-4 in the LMC and 13-17 overall, will continue conference play on Wednesday when Dominican makes the trip to Lakeland.
