Athletics - posted on 4/29/2006

Rachel Griesbach pitched the first no-hitter of her collegiate career in Game 1 and Monica Hetzel drove in six runs in Game 2 as the Lakeland softball team swept Alverno easily on Saturday, 8-0 and 9-1.

Griesbach pitched six innings, striking our five and walking none. An error in the second inning cost her the perfect game.

Elisa Waltz went 3-for-4 with a triple and four runs batted in to lead the Muskie offense in Game 1.

In Game 2, Hetzel dropped down a squeeze bunt in the first, singled in two runs in the second and added a bases loaded double in the fifth to drive in six of the Muskies' nine runs.

Hetzel finished the conference season batting .549 in the LMC with a .745 slugging percentage and 16 runs batted in.

Griesbach also got the victory in the nightcap, giving her a 12-0 conference record during the 2006 campaign.

The Muskies finish the season in second place in the LMC with a 12-4 record. They will play next on Friday, May 5 in the conference tournament at Wisconsin Lutheran.
