Shooting, defense spell win for Muskies

CHICAGO -- Solid shooting and defense propelled the Lakeland basketball team to a 73-57 win over winless Illinois Tech Tuesday night.
The Muskies (3-5) nailed 55 percent of their shots in the first half en route to 38-31 advantage. Lakeland limited IIT (0-15) to 31 percent shooting for the game, and held a 45-38 rebound advantage over the Scarlet Hawks, who are coached by former Illinois standout and NBA player Kenny Battle.
Senior Ryan Hiir led Lakeland with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while classmate Nick Zeck added 14 points and nine rebounds, freshman Kris Saiberlich scored 12 and junior Germayne James had 11 points.
Lakeland returns to action Saturday in a non-conference game at Rockford College in Illinois at 3 p.m.
