The Lakeland College women's golf team had a great weekend to open the 2006 season, using three individual top-10 performances to win the Edgewood College Fall Invite with a team score of 938 for the two-day event at East Course at Yahara Hills Golf Course in Madison.
The win marks the first time in Lakeland history that a women's golf team has won a meet.
Freshman Nikki Commons led the way for Lakeland with a fourth-place finish. She shot team lows on both days with a 92 on Saturday and a 102 on Sunday.
Sophomore Becky Kottke and junior Rebecca Schuettpelz also cracked the top 10, finishing ninth and 10th respectively for the Muskies. The duo both shot 129 on Saturday, but Kottke's Sunday score of 116 was good enough to edge out her teammate by one stroke for the ninth spot.
Junior Jessica Carter also contributed for the Muskies, coming in 12th overall with a total score of 253 on the weekend.
Lakeland's next meet is Wednesday, Sept. 13, hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran.
