Collins Tabbed IBFC Offensive Player of the Week

Athletics - posted on 10/11/2006

Lakeland College freshman halfback Dominique Collins was named Illini-Badger Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week after a dazzling performance in action against Eureka last Saturday.

Against the Red Devils, Collins had 23 rushing attempts for 142 yards of offense.  He produced 2 touchdowns, helping Lakeland take down Eureka 45-6 at McKinzie Field in Eureka, Ill.

"I'm very happy with Dominique," said Lakeland head coach Jim Zebrowski after last week's win. "It was great game for Dominique to start at running back. After today (Saturday at Eureka) he'll be our starting running back."

The Bolingbrook, Ill., native recently made the switch from fullback to halfback to replace Shawn Lee, who suffered an apparent season-ending knee injury against Greenville.

Collins and his Lakeland (3-3, 3-0 IBFC) teammates will battle IBFC foe MacMurray on the road this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ill.
