The Lakeland College men's volleyball team improved to 6-1 in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference by handily defeating UW-Whitewater in three games (30-20, 30-21, 30-20) on Wednesday, Mar. 21, at Lakeland.

After dropping their last WVC match to top-ranked UW-Oshkosh on Mar. 8, the Muskies (21-3) rebounded to hit over .500 as a team in the second and third games to help lift the squad to victory over the Warhawks in its last home WVC match of the regular season and on Senior Night.

"I was worried about the time off going into this one following spring break," said head coach Chad Schreiber. "Those worries proved true only for the first 10 points. After that, the guys settled into a groove and played at a level I was pretty satisfied with."

Junior middle hitter Jared Rohland played a solid match with a team-high 13 kills on .454 hitting and also recorded five blocks. Senior outside hitter Matt Martin also continued to show all-around dominance on the court, knocking down 12 kills on .467 hitting and chipping in 10 digs and five blocks. Senior middle hitter Adam Plach also shone brightly in his final regular-season home game, tallying eight kills, three blocks and tying Martin in digs with 10.

"It is fun to celebrate with the seniors their last home match, but it is sad to see this group go," Schreiber said. "A lot of effort and emotion has been given by this group to help our team be successful.  With their loss, we also lose very supportive families who have been with us as well.  Let's hope we have more to celebrate with them yet this season."

Lakeland will continue WVC action on Thursday, Mar. 22 at Marquette. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
