Solid hitting continues to propel the Lakeland College softball team, as the Muskies took both of their games by significant margins on Wednesday, Mar. 14, in continued action from their spring break tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
In game one against Knox College, freshman Cassie Felton took the mound to help the squad cruise to a 13-3 victory in five innings. Sophomore Christina Schultz and freshman Sara Mallion made significant contributions on offense, as Schultz crushed a grand slam and Mallion added a homer of her own to help seal the game.
In the second game, freshman Sara Roberts pitched her way to a 10-2 win in six innings over Kenyon College for the Muskies.
"Overall we fought really hard and our offense was really clicking," said head coach Chad Buchmann. "We're so far ahead of where we were at this time last year."
Tomorrow, Lakeland will continue tournament play from Tucson with two more games, facing off with Colorado School of the Mines at 5:30 p.m. and Monmouth College at 7:30 p.m.
"The games tomorrow shouldn't be anything we can't handle, but our defense will be the key," Buchmann said.
