Muskies Take 4th at Warrior Invite

The Lakeland College track team recently earned a fourth place finish with 150 points at the Warrior Invitational held at Wisconsin Lutheran College on Saturday, Mar. 31, in Milwaukee, Wis.

The women's team finished third overall with 72 points, thanks in part to the first place performances of sophomore Amy Christenson in the 200 meter dash (29.54) and freshman Terra Hiben in the 400 meter dash (1:05.58).

Christenson also competed in the 100 meter dash, finishing third in 14.10, while fellow sophomores Maggie Short and Jacqui Drexler finished right behind her in fourth (14.67) and fifth (14.95) place respectively. Short and Drexler also competed in the 200 meter race, with Short finishing just behind Christenson for second place in 29.66, while Drexler finished seventh in 31.03. Additionally, sophomore Brittany Tarras placed third in the 800 meter run to add to the Muskies' point total, finishing in 2:45.65.

The women's team also tallied a pair of second-place finishes in the relay events, as Short, Hiben, Drexler and Christenson teamed up to finish the 4x100 meter relay in 55.07. Short, Hiben and Chistenson combined once again for the 4x400 meter relay, adding Tarras to finish in 4:31.84.

On the men's side, the squad earned 78 points to finish in fourth place. Freshman Tinashe Ota turned in the team's most successful performance of the day, finishing first in the 100 meter dash in 11.23. Ota also competed in the 200 meter dash to finish in 14th place with a time of 24.39. Junior Julius Higgs contributed to the point total with a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run in 2:07.06, while freshman Nic Horstmeier turned in a seventh place finish in the 110 meter hurdles at 18.03. Junior Akheim McKnight and senior Ricardo Brown also competed, turning in ninth and 10th place finishes, respectively, in the 400 meter dash at 56.79 and 57.69.

In the men's relay events, Ota and Brown combined with sophomore Brent Miller and freshman Shaun Forsyth to finish sixth in the 4x100 meter event in 49.79. In the 4x400 meter relay, Horstmeier, Higgs and McKnight teamed up with freshman Luke Herriges to take fifth in a time of 3:46.25.

Lakeland will look to improve on these performances at the Elmhurst Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 14, in Elmhurst, Ill. Meet start time TBA.
