The Lakeland College track team capped off its season at the Northern Athletics Conference outdoor meet on Saturday, May 5, in Milwaukee, Wis. The men's team took fourth place with 74 points and the women finished in sixth with 21 points.
Freshman Tinashe Ota continued his dominance in the 100 and 200 meter dash events, winning both with a time of 11.04 seconds in the 100 and 22.41 in the 200. Ota also came in second in the long jump at 6.56 meters.
Junior Julius Higgs also performed strongly in the meet, taking first place in the high jump at 1.87 meters, followed closely by teammate freshman Luke Herriges. Higgs also recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 400 (52.87) and in the triple jump (12.81), while also finishing seventh in the 800 (2:10.04).
Freshman Nic Horstmeier also helped boost the team's point total, finishing fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.98) and taking fifth in the long jump (6.22).
Although the women's team was only able to field three competitors, the Muskies put up a tough fight none the less. Sophomore Amy Christenson tallied the team's highest finish of the day in the 400, taking second place with a time of one minute 4.86 seconds.
Christenson also led the team in the 200, finishing sixth (28.84), followed by sophomore Maggie Short in seventh (29.37) and sophomore Jacqui Drexler in ninth (30.35). Short also tallied a fourth-place finish in the 100 (14.02), followed by Drexler in sixth (14.64).
