Three members of the Lakeland men's volleyball team were named to the All-Midwest 10 team following their performances in this season's second Midwest 10 Tournament on Saturday, Mar. 24, in Milwaukee, Wis.
Senior outside hitter Matt Martin (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) and junior middle hitter Avdo Omerbegovic (Chicago, Ill./Amundsen) were awarded All-Midwest 10 recognition, while sophomore outside hitter Joe Julkowski (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) was an Honorable Mention All-Midwest 10 selection.
The Muskies took second in the tournament, falling to UW-Oshkosh, 2-0 (25-21, 25-15), in the championship match after winning four of their six matches.
Martin has been a major factor in that success, as he has been a team-leader all season in kills and digs with 363 and 241, respectively. In the tournament, he tallied a team-high nine kills and added three digs in the Muskies' dismantling of Ball State, 2-0 (25-15, 25-9).
Omerbegovic has also been solid all season, as he leads the team in hitting at .370 and is second on the team in block assists with 79.
Julkowski has been developing nicely all season and experienced an offensive break-through in the tournament. He tallied a personal tournament-high 11 kills in the squad's second shot of the tournament at Notre Dame, helping his team avenge a loss to the Fighting Irish in their first match by winning when it counted most, 2-1 (25-19, 19-25, 15-13). He also recorded six kills in a win over UW-Milwaukee and four kills, four digs and three service aces against Ball State. He is currently third on the team in kills with 224 and leads the team in aces with 30.
