The Lakeland College men's volleyball team took the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Tournament title with a win over rival UW-Oshkosh 2-0 (25-22, 25-19) on Saturday, Apr. 7, at Lakeland.

The Muskies (41-7, 13-1 WVC), who clinched the WVC regular-season title earlier in the day, opened with a 2-0 win over No. 8 seeded UW-Stevens Point, 2-0 (25-13, 25-7), in the quarterfinals. Lakeland then routed No. 5 UW-La Crosse, 2-0 (25-17, 25-21), to earn a trip to the finals.

"This is our first WVC title, so it means a lot," said head coach Chad Schreiber. "But we still need to keep our focus on what we want to accomplish in the national tournament and keep our focus up."

Junior middle hitter Avdo Omerbegovic led the team with six kills against Stevens Point and also added four blocks, while senior outside hitter Matt Martin and junior middle hitter Jared Rohland teamed up to lead the squad to victory over La Crosse with 11 and seven kills respectively. In the championship match with Oshkosh, the Muskies' middle hitters prevailed once again, as Rohland and Omerbegovic each tallied five kills while Omerbegovic also chipped in five blocks and Rohland added three.

In addition to the program's first-ever WVC Tournament title, four Muskies were named to the WVC All-Tournament team. Rohland was named tournament MVP for his stellar play throughout the day, while Martin and senior middle hitter Adam Plach earned All-Tournament Team honors. Junior middle hitter Tim Frillman was named to the Divison II All-Conference Team.

The Muskies also picked up six All-Conference Awards. Martin was named WVC Division I Player of the Year. Rohland and Omerbegovic were named to the All-Conference Team, while Plach received All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. Junior Andrew Lietz earned the WVC Division II Player of the Year, while Frillman and sophomore setter Joe Sanabria were named to the Division II All-Conference Team.

The Muskies will be in action again at the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) National Championships April 12th-15th in Lexington, Ky. Match time TBA.
