Baseball Drops Pair to MSOE
Athletics - posted on 4/9/2007
The Lakeland College baseball team suffered a pair of non-conference losses to Milwaukee School of Engineering, 3-2, 7-1, on Monday, Apr. 9, at Lakeland.
Although the Muskies (7-11, 3-3) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third inning, the Raiders came back to tie the game in the sixth, forcing extra innings. MSOE went on to score a run at the top of the eighth for the 3-2 advantage, but the Muskies were unable to counter resulting in the loss.
Junior Nate Brusewitz went seven innings on the mound for the Muskies, giving up two runs on ten hits. Freshman Doug Novak took the loss after coming in to pitch the seventh.
Sophomore Alex Grant and senior Tyler Schmitt each tallied one of the Muskies' two hits for the game, both doubles.
In game two, the Raiders got the scoring started right away with two runs in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. The Muskies answered with one run in the second to cut the lead to 2-1, where it remained until the fifth inning when the Raiders ripped off five runs to take a 7-1 lead. Once again, Lakeland's bats were unable to answer as all three batters went down in a row at the bottom of the fifth, at which point the game was called due to snow.
Sophomore Jake Van Camp took the loss, pitching into the fifth and allowing seven runs on 12 hits. Freshman Lee Chepil came in to relieve Van Camp, giving up one hit and no runs.
On offense, senior third baseman Mitch Heinemeyer led the way for the Muskies, going 2-3 at bat and tallying one stolen base.
The Muskies will resume Northern Athletics Conference play tomorrow, hosting a doubleheader with Concordia, Wis. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
