Lakeland Falls to Edgewood
Athletics - posted on 4/15/2007
The Lakeland College baseball team was swept by Northern Athletics Conference rival, Edgewood College, 1-0 and 6-1, on Sunday in Sheboygan.
In game one the Muskies' offense had tough time getting things going against Eagles' pitcher Cody Flynn. The Eagles only needed one run and that is exactly what they got in the fifth inning when Cory McCullick hit a sacrifice fly to left field bringing in Matt Werner.
Senior Mitch Heinemeyer led the way offensively for the Muskies going 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
Senior Zach Schmitz started on the hill for the Muskies. He pitched all nine innings allowing only the one run, which was unearned, on nine hits, while walking one and striking out three.
In game two the Eagles didn't waste any time getting on the board, they scored one run in the top of the first. They added two in the third and one in each of the fourth and fifth innings for a total of six. The Muskies finally got on the board in the sixth when Heinemeyer drove in sophomore Alex Grant for the Muskies only run.
Offensively the Muskies were once again led by Heinemeyer, who went 2-3 with one run-batted-in and one stolen base.
Starting on the hill for the Muskies was junior Nate Brusewitz. He lasted five innings, giving up five runs on nine hits. Sophomore Mike Phillips relieved Brusewitz, and went the final four innings giving up only one run on three hits.
The Muskies will next be in action tomorrow in Watertown, Wis. where they will face Maranatha Baptist Bible College in another Northern Athletics Conference game. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
