Muskie Fight Hard, but Ultimately Fall to Eagles

Athletics - posted on 10/9/2007

The Lakeland College men's soccer team (1-10, 1-5 NAC) put up a strong fight against Northern Athletics Conference foe Edgewood College on Tuesday at Lakeland, but in the end the Muskies were unable to keep pace, resulting in a 7-3 defeat.

The Muskies went goal-for-goal with the Eagles throughout the first half, resulting in a 2-1 score in favor of Lakeland at halftime with goals by sophomore defender Doua Vang and junior midfielder Matt Van Drunen.

The home squad continued to stick with Edgewood into the early phases of the second half, with a third goal by senior midfielder Zach Buchman on a penalty kick. However, Edgewood was able to wear down Lakeland's defensive line later in the game to score five unanswered goals for the win.

The Muskies will look to recover with a non-conference game against UW-Oshkosh on Monday, Oct. 15. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Muskie Field.
