Men's Soccer Falls to Tough Spartan Squad

The Lakeland College men's soccer team fell to Northern Athletics Conference opponent Aurora University, 4-0, on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Lakeland.

The Muskies (2-12, 2-6 NAC) found themselves at a disadvantage right from the start, as the Spartans snuck in their first goal just over one minute into the game. Aurora then notched their second goal off a well-placed corner kick just before half to take the 2-0 lead. Lakeland wasn't able to get its offense moving in the second half either, while the Spartans found the back of the net twice more.

"Right from the start we came out with a lack of effort," said head coach Dave Madsen. We had some individuals who were fighting hard, but for the most part we weren't working for each other and we weren't pulling for each other. Aurora came to play today, but I think we could have given them a better game and finished on some of the chances we had to score."

Lakeland will continue competition on Sunday, Oct. 21, with their final scheduled non-conference game of season against Carthage College followed by their final two regular season NAC games next week on Tuesday and Saturday.

"Our remaining conference games will be tough," Madsen said. "MSOE is in the middle of the pack right now, but has had some good results this year, and Benedictine is similar to us. I think they are both games we can win, but if we come with the same effort we had today I don't think we'll have a chance. We need to come with effort and focus right from the start."

Game time with Carthage is set for 3 p.m. in Kenosha, Wis.
