Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener
Athletics - posted on 9/1/2007
The Lakeland College women's soccer team (0-1) opened its season with a 4-1 loss to Greenville in the Greenville Tournament in Greenville, Ill.
Freshman forward Maria Santelli scored the Muskies' lone goal of the game in the second half, putting away a dropped save by Greenville's goalkeeper on a hard shot by senior midfielder Tracy Bins.
"We started off pretty well and had a few early chances to score, but their keeper was able to save them," said head coach Dave Madsen. "It took us some time to adjust and get our heads into the game."
However, the squad's goal was unable to help them recover from a 2-0 halftime deficit that only widened in the second half, as Greenville buried two more shots in the back of Lakeland's net.
The Muskies will look to earn their first win of the season in the second day of tournament play on Sunday, Sept. 2, as they face Robert Morris College. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Greenville, Ill.
