With a pair of convincing wins over Milwaukee School of Engineering, 20-2, 9-1, on Mar. 26, Lakeland head softball coach Chad Buchmann earned his 100th career win.
Prior to signing on as head coach at Lakeland in 2004, Buchmann compiled a 65-41 record in a two-year stint as the head coach at Jamestown College (North Dakota).
"Reaching this milestone as the Muskies' head coach makes it even more enjoyable, considering that I graduated from Lakeland," said Buchmann, who is a 1998 grad. "I thanked the ladies, and would like to thank all the past players that have played for both programs."
The Muskies also earned their first 20-win season since 1999 on Tuesday, Apr. 17, with two victories in doubleheader action over Maranatha Baptist, 15-2, 9-1. The squad is currently 20-6 overall, good for second in the Northern Athletics Conference with a 13-1 record, just behind undefeated Aurora University (12-0).
"The ladies have been working so hard to get back to the top of the conference," Buchmann said. "We have more work to do this coming week in order to win the first-ever NAC softball championship. The team's goals for the year were to win the NAC Championship, earn a NCAA bid and win 20 games. We have taken care of one, but will have to maintain our focus to achieve the other two."
The squad is well on its way to accomplishing those goals, winning 17 of its last 18 contests and compiling a .354 team batting average with a 2.03 pitching ERA, good for second in the NAC rankings.
However, the Muskies have yet to face three of the top four teams in the conference, as they will play Marian, Benedictine and Aurora within the next week, starting with a doubleheader against Benedictine at home on Saturday, Apr. 21. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
