Women's Soccer Shut Out in Loss to Lawrence

Athletics - posted on 9/9/2007

The frustrations of the Lakeland College women's soccer team continued on Sunday following a 3-0 loss to Lawrence University, as the squad's first victory of the season continues to elude them.

Although the Muskies (0-4) registered a solid offensive attack in the first half with seven total shot attempts, they were unable to find the back of the net. Lawrence, however, was able to score two first half goals to secure an early lead. The Vikings also stepped up their defensive efforts in the second half, limiting the Muskies to one shot attempt for the half, then sealed the game with a third goal on a penalty kick in the 86th minute.

Lakeland goalkeeper, senior Savannah Johnson, tallied five saves in 90 minutes of work while junior forward Amy Christenson and freshman forward Maria Santelli headed up the offensive effort with two shots and one shot on goal apiece.

The Muskies will open their Northern Athletics Conference schedule with Marian College on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. in Fond du Lac, Wis.
