The Lakeland women’s basketball team opened the San Diego Surf ‘N Slam Tournament with a 66-51 loss to Western Connecticut on Tuesday.
Renee Steinert led all scorers with 23 points for the Muskies, and Sara Langenhorst added 12 in the losing effort.
For Western Connecticut, Jessica Minotti came off the bench to pour in 23 points in 22 minutes. Mallory Stevens added 16 points.
Lakeland’s only lead came off a Brenda Paulson three-pointer to open the game.
The Muskies, now 5-5 on the season, will face Connecticut College tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Central time in the consolation half of the tournament.
