White Awarded Second Straight IBFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Senior wide receiver MacArthur White (Zion, Ill./Zion Benton) garnered Illini-Badger Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the second straight week after another stellar performance in action against Carthage College last Saturday.

White returned five kickoffs for a total of 199 yards, averaging 23.8 yards a return. His long for the contest was 58 yards. Despite his outstanding performance, the Muskies fell to Carthage College, 25-16, in the non-conference contest.

White earned IBFC Special Teams Player of the Week the first week of the season for his play against UW-Whitewater. White returned a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown, the lone score of the day for the Muskies against two-time Division III national runner-up UW-Whitewater. He returned three kickoff returns for a total of 127 yards in the 41-7 loss to the Falcons.

"It's a great honor to have one of your players get recognized two weeks in a row," said Lakeland head coach Kevin Doherty. "What makes it even more surprising is usually after the return man has a game like Mac did against Whitewater he'll have a target on his back for the next game. It is also a tribute to the rest of our special teams for defending him."

Last season, White was an honorable mention All-Region North honoree, co-IBFC Receiver of the Year and first team all-conference. He was picked No. 1 on the IBFC coaches' Preseason Top 10 Players to Watch list.

White led the league in receptions and receiving yards per game in 2006, averaging 5.7 receptions for an average of 73.8 yards per game last season. He was also fourth in the conference in all-purpose yards, averaging 103.3 per game. White, who was honorable mention all-IBFC his sophomore season, also earned IBFC Offensive Player of the Week honors once last season.

The Muskies (0-2) will be in action at UW-Oshkosh this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Oshkosh, Wis.
