Muskies start second day of Florida games with win
Athletics - posted on 3/6/2005
The Muskies picked up a pair of wins Sunday in Florida, defeating Rockford College, 2-1, and topping Emmanuel College of Boston, 11-8.
Rachel Griesbach earned the pitching win for the Muskies, giving up only three hits, three walks and striking out one.
The Muskies were down 1-0 early due to some throwing errors, but came storming back in the fifth inning, when Jenny Zimmerman and Katie Joe Fuller scored. "It was nice getting our first win out of the way," said first-year head coach Chad Buchmann. "We are a young team and this win is a great thing for our team."
Errors led to Lakeland trailing 5-0 in the first inning of the Emmanuel game, but the Muskies chipped away at the deficit. Lakeland scored twice in the first, and the bats came alive in the 7th inning when the Muskies scored seven more runs.
Four Muskies had at least two hits, led by Katie Yeager who was 2-4 with two runs scored and two doubles. Melanie Houle was 2-5 with two runs scored, and Pam Valukas was 2-3 with two runs scored and a double for the Muskies. Jenny Zimmerman earned the pitching win for the Muskies.
The Muskies, now 2-2, face St. Mary’s and Ursinus on Monday, March 7th.
