Lakeland College junior punter/kicker Billy Hughes (Brooksville, Fla./Nature Coast Tech) was awarded the Illini-Badger Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season for his performance against Eureka College last Saturday.
This is the fourth time this season a Muskie has captured the IBFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. In addition to Hughes earning the honor in week three this season, Lakeland senior wide receiver MacArthur White has captured the honor twice.
Hughes sparkled in the Muskies' 32-9 homecoming win over the Red Devils last Saturday. Hughes punted four times for 185 yards. His average per punt was 46.2, with a long of 60 yards. He also had one punt fall inside the 20-yard line. With the win, the Muskies are 3-3 on the season, 3-0 in IBFC play.
"I am very proud of Billy and I think in the last few games he has done a great job helping our defense by his punting," said Lakeland head coach Kevin Doherty. "The defense has really been able to capitalize on some field position that was made by our punt team."
