Johnson and Hughes Earned IBFC Player of the Week Awards

A pair of Lakeland football players earned Illini-Badger Football Conference Player of the Week honors for outstanding play against Aurora University this past Saturday. Junior linebacker Stephan Johnson (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) was named co-defensive player of week, and junior kicker Billy Hughes (Brooksville, Fla./Nature Coast Tech) earned special teams player of the week for the third time this season.
Johnson shined for the Muskies' defense with six solo tackles and three assisted tackles for a total of nine. He also had 2.5 tackles for a loss of 16 yards, as well as two sacks for a loss of 15 yards. Johnson stepped into the outside linebacker role this fall after playing on the defensive line the past two seasons. He was an

honorable mention All-Region North defensive lineman last year and an all-IBFC first team honoree.
Hughes sparkled with four punts for 163 yards, with an average of 40.8 yards per punt. He had a long of 50 yards and all four of his punts landed inside the 20-yard line. Hughes leads the Muskies in punting this season, averaging 38.6 yards per punt this season. He was an all-IBFC second team punter last season.
