Muskie Men Silence Warhawks to Remain Undefeated

Athletics - posted on 2/1/2008

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team cruised to its fifth-straight Wisconsin Volleyball Conference victory with a 3-0 shutout over UW-Whitewater on Friday, Feb. 1.

Although the Muskies (5-0 overall) have been hampered by some nagging injuries, the squad showed no signs of letting them slow its momentum. Lakeland gave the Warhawks no chance of winning in all three games, as the Muskies hit nearly 50 percent as a team with a 67 percent effort in game three to easily take the match with scores of 30-24, 30-15, 30-15.

Senior outside hitter Matt Martin sparkled for the Muskies on offense with 15 kills on just 18 attempts while also adding eight digs, two aces and one solo block. Senior middle hitter Tim Frillman was also extremely accurate with six kills on eight attempts to go along with three blocks, while senior right side hitter Andrew Lietz also chipped in six kills with four block assists and four digs.

Lakeland will continue match play with its first big tournament of the season at the Midwest 10 Tournament hosted by Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 9. Match times TBA.
